Star Teachers’ Club
The Star Teachers’ Club was successfully launched on 28 November 2017. The Club is itself a response to one of HKBU’s initiatives, which is to augment its present mentoring system into a full-fledged academic advising scheme in the new curricular structure.
The project team, alumni mentors and their mentees are entitled to the membership of the Star Teachers’ Club.
The invited star teachers of English received their professional qualifications through the PgDE and double-degree programmes at HKBU. The Club leads to a confluence of minds and hearts as and when these alumni connect with double-degree students through a repertoire of activities for teacher professional learning.
Star talks/lesson demonstrations
The project coordinators and members draw on their interests and areas of expertise to deliver talks through teaching by example to double-degree students in the form of a sharing event at HKBU.
There are 15–18 star talks/lesson demonstrations over five to six 2–hour sharing sessions. While the invited talks engage practising teachers and teacher-learners in scholarly discussions of English language education, the lesson demonstrations will make theory (declarative and procedural knowledge) more functional and accessible to the participants. The star talks/lesson demonstrations provide a forum for the participants to share and evaluate good practices, and to produce new knowledge around purposeful actions (Cambridge, Kaplan, & Suter, 2005). Each attendee is required to fill in a feedback form at the conclusion of the talks/demonstrations for evaluation purposes.
